Polar Obsession 360
"Polar Obsession," a project by National Geographic photographer Paul Nicklen, offers an immersive look into the life and landscapes of the polar regions. Directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker Max Salomon, this series showcases the fragile ecosystems of the Arctic and Antarctic, highlighting the impacts of climate change on these environments. Nicklen's compelling photographs capture a wide range of polar wildlife, from majestic polar bears and giant elephant seals to the smaller but equally vital krill and Arctic cod.
The filming of "Polar Obsession" required navigating harsh conditions, with Nicklen and his team braving sub-zero temperatures and treacherous icy waters to document the intricate behaviors and habitats of polar species. This dedication is evident in the breathtaking underwater and aerial shots that provide a unique, close-up perspective of life in these remote regions. By using innovative techniques and enduring extreme environments, Nicklen brings to light the pressing issue of climate change and its effect on polar biodiversity.
Nicklen’s childhood in the Canadian Arctic, living among an Inuit community, deeply influenced his passion for the polar world. This personal connection is reflected in the poignant storytelling of "Polar Obsession," which aims not just to inform but to inspire action towards conservation.
