James Mills

After graduating from USC Film School with honors, James worked with producer Sean Daniel (The Mummy series, Tombstone, Dazed and Confused) before committing full-time to freelance filmmaking on his own.

He has since gone on to shoot and direct award-winning commercial, narrative, music video, fashion, and documentary filmsf or dozens of globally recognized brands including Marriott, Disney, Sephora, NFL, NBA, MLB, and BCBG as well as internationally renowned artists Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, and Nick Cannon.

James has brought in multiple Addy awards for various commercials and an Emmy nomination for his work at Fox Sports, Mills’ most recent short film Moon Child won the Grand Jury Awards at Audience Fest and the San Francisco Film Festival, as well as receiving Short of the Week honors at Vimeo’s shortoftheweek.com.

In addition to completing over 100 professional projects around the world, James has written eight feature length screenplays, including Follow Me (2024, starting Connie Nielsen). Most recently he has been Director of Photography on Sean Penn’s Superpower (2023) , Abigail Disney’s The American Dream and other Fairy tales (2022), and Netflix’s Unkown: The Lost Pyramid (2023).
