THE CHALLENGE
In India there are 5.5 million children not enrolled in primary school. Calcutta Mercy Hospital provides free education to children in the slums of Calcutta through a program called Project Rhino. Schooling through Project Rhino only costs $1 a day per child. The challenge is that they can’t expand into new communities at the moment because of a lack in resources. Still Life Projects was approached to produce two short videos to raise money for the children who are currently on a waiting list to receive free education.

Just returned from a 3-week expedition on the Xingu river in Brazil shooting a team of scientists for National Geographic Explorer. After my last trip to the Amazon where we encountered rain and the pain of switching camps every night this trip was easier, but my fear of all the freaky river creatures looming under the water had me on edge…

Typing from the airport in Istanbul – about to trade kebabs for dumplings as I leave Turkey and fly direct to Beijing for another project there. It’s been an intense time here in Turkey over the last couple of weeks – I’ve been shooting a film documentary. Can’t share too many details now, but I’ve included an image of me shooting on a custom-rigged Canon 5D Mark II.
Absolute thanks to everyone involved.

Just returned from two shoots to the Dominican Republic, shooting a team of archaeologists searching for Columbus’ lost fleet. A grueling shoot, but a wonderful experience. We had the opportunity to dive, do some archeology in a graveyard, and shoot in a cave with some incredible rock art.

As we were getting ready for three weeks in Brazil on the Rio Roosevelt, I knew it would be a tough trip. We were headed to a river that few people knew anything about, nicknamed the “River of Doubt.” Since Theodore Roosevelt discovered it, only one team has attempted the trip we were about to take, pulling out early…

After almost three decades spent traveling all over China, I finally made it to Shanghai. The assignment was to capture elements of the city for a worldwide advertising campaign, which, for a cameraman, is basically an excuse to go exploring. I found some of the best stuff in the early morning and late evening hours, trying to find images that captured both the traditional and ultra-modern feel of the place. Here are a few still frames I grabbed in the process…
